Propylene glycol methyl ether

Propylene glycol monomethyl ether (PM, C₄H₁₀O₂) is a low-toxicity environmentally friendly solvent. With its excellent solubility, appropriate evaporation rate, and ether-hydroxyl bifunctional group structure, it is widely used in the following fields:

I. Core Industrial Solvent Applications

1. Coatings and Inks

   • An excellent solvent for nitrocellulose, alkyd resins, and modified phenolic resins, enhancing coating adhesion and leveling;
   • Active solvent for water-based coatings, widely used in automotive industry water-based coating systems;
   • Dispersant/coupling agent for inks, used in flexographic/screen printing and ballpoint pen inks.

2. Cleaning and Degreasing

   • A key solvent in industrial equipment grease cleaners, metal rust removers, and hard surface cleaners;
   • Component of cleaning agents used in PCB circuit boards and liquid crystal display (LCD) production.

3. Chemical Synthesis Additives

   • Pesticide intermediate: a core raw material for synthesizing the herbicide metolachlor;
   • Extractant/beneficiation agent: used for separating non-ferrous metals and natural products.

II. Functional Additives

1. Fuel and Fluid Improvement

   • Jet fuel antifreeze (freezing point -76°C) and brake fluid additive;
   • Component of antifreeze, ensuring low-temperature fluidity.

2. Polymer Material Processing

   • Improves processing fluidity of resins such as PVC and acrylates, reducing melt viscosity;
   • Plasticizer and diluent for rubber and adhesives.
